Guru Gobind Singh Ji [1666 – 1708] was the tenth Guru of the Sikhs born in a village named Patna Sahib as Gobind Das or Gobind Rai becoming Guru at the young age of 8 after his father, Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji was beheaded in Delhi. He recomposed the present day version of the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji at Damdama Sahib in 1706. His writings also were later compiled into the present day Sri Dasam Granth Sahib Ji and Sri Sarbloh Granth Sahib Ji by Bhai Mani Singh under the direct instruction of Mata Sundri.

Guru Gobind Singh Ji had three wives, Mata Jito who was the mother of Sahibzada Jujhar Singh, Sahibzada Zorawar Singh and Sahibzada Fateh Singh, Mata Sundri who was the mother of Sahibzada Ajit Singh and Mata Sahib Devan or Mata Sahib Kaur who is known as the mother of the Khalsa and who never had a physical relationship with the Guru and is said to be the incarnation of Goddess Durga Mata.

In the composition Bachitar Natak found in Sri Dasam Granth Sahib Ji, Guru Gobind Singh Ji states in his previous incarnation he was Dusht Daman or Destroyer of Evil and helped Goddess Durga Mata in defeating two demons Bel and Subel.
